RAKU FIRING

Get your hands dirty and play with fire—safely

Join us for:
a three hour Mindful Making: Raku Prep Session
a four hour Building Community: Raku Firing workshop
or attend both!

In the raku prep session, you’ll create your own pieces using clay specially designed to resist heat shock, which helps them survive the dramatic temperature changes of raku firing. If you can’t join us for the making session and don’t have a piece ready to fire, you can purchase a studio-made bisque piece from us to glaze and fire.

During the firing workshop, you’ll work side-by-side with the instructor to fire the raku kiln multiple times. Pieces are pulled from the kiln at temperature and placed into a reduction chamber to “smoke,” creating bold, one-of-a-kind surface effects as flame, smoke, glaze, and clay interact. Raku is fast, hands-on, and deeply satisfying—perfect for folks who love quick results, bold experimentation, and the thrill of the process. No experience needed.
